Operation FastBack provids an array of direct and indirect financial savings.
At more than $100 billion per year in direct and secondary costs, back pain is the most expensive benign condition in all of medicine. When health systems or health plans adopt the entire Operation FastBack program, they’ll save about $4 for each patient per month in direct medical costs, such as imaging, surgery, injections, and therapy.
- For a population of 100,000 people that’s a savings of $4.8 million per year.
- For self-insured employers and for the patients themselves the additional savings in lost wages, workers compensation and other costs may be four to five times that amount.
